“Yoroshi” is derived from “eorusi”, a word in the language of Hokkaido’s indigenous Ainu people meaning “a large rock jutting from the middle of a river”. When Japanese settlers first arrived, the area was occupied by an Ainu tribe leader known as Chacha Hanzo. The nightly custom was a bear sacrifice known as “iomante”, and about 300 bear skulls were worshipped at the altar. The region was discovered in 1901 by the late Takeshige Nishimura, and Hot Spring Lodge Daiichi was opened in 1929 by the late Yohei Sakamoto, who came from what is now Nemuro City. The lodge remains in operation to this day. The hot spring source is a fully natural, free-flowing spring. Our bathing halls and open air baths are constantly filled by water rising from seven sources ranging in temperature from 72 degrees to 95 degrees Celsius, at a rate of 300 liters per minute. Our menu is based on ingredients from the surrounding mountains, such as wild mountain vegetables and yamame trout, complemented with regional ingredients such as seafood and dairy products. We hope that you find our dishes to be as inspiring as they are delicious and nourishing. Our staff are dedicated to making your stay as pleasant and relaxing as possible. We look forward to hosting your visit.
